That mercurial mirth-meister Bill Murray has been slathered with many labels ever since his rumpled Irish mug first graced "Saturday Night Live" in the '70s.
Wry. Deadpan. Smarmy. Sarcastic. Sullen. Sardonic. Soulful. Murray at age 54 is like all Seven Dwarfs in one, only taller. He's hardly ever boring, rarely easy to decipher. All those adjectives and more apply as he continues to graft serious intentions onto the comic persona he perfected in such early hits as "Stripes" and "Ghostbusters." This time, he's a washed-up oceanographer desperate to reclaim his evaporating glory in "The Life Aquatic With Steve Zissou," which goes nationwide Dec. 25.
