From their African ancestors, they retain the Punta dance. Punta is a dance where people form a circle around two dancers a male and a female, there are two drummers playing a drum while everyone else in the circle sings forming a quire to the leading singer. The Garifuna people have others dance which makes their culture unique they have traditional folkloric dance for special occasion such as wanaragua, coropatia, paranda and many others. Wanaragua is a dance practiced around Christmas or a local village carnival; it consists of men in costumes dancing in a circle form by the spectators. One man at time jumps into the circle dancing challenging the drummer. The drummer must play the drum describing the dancers steps.
