I have the love of a Garifuna man, My Father!
From birth you have been in my life,
You have kept me safe and protected me from harm.
Your strong arms embrace me whenever I felt sad, lonely or afraid.
Your wisdom guided me in the right direction in life.
Your unselfish love has never wavered.
You accepted me with all my flaws,
And have forgiven all of my many mistakes.
At times, we disagreed with one another,
But my respect for you was never lost.
In loving my mother, you taught me the meaning of true love.
By taking care of your family, you showed me what a real man is supposed to do.
You gave us so much of yourself,
But never asked for nothing in return.
Even in death, I know that you are still watching over me.
When you left this life, I felt like a piece of my soul was lost.
When you died, I lost my best friend.
I lost the one person in this world,
That truly understood me.
My Father, you are so missed.
I know that there will never be a person,
Who can replace the love that I have for you.
