Of Carnival

In May of 2000, Elisa Levy Wilson was elected
Queen in San Francisco Carnival. Born and raised in Bluefields,
Nicaragua, Ms. Levy is the
first Nicaraguan and woman of Garifuna decent
to ever be crowned Queen in the history of carnival in
San Francisco.
San Francisco’s carnival was first established in 1979.
It is traditionally held during the month of May. Since she held
the title of Queen, she has been trying to raise $30,000. With
these funds, she plans to sponsor a cultural dance group from
Bluefields, Nicaragua Ballet Costeno.
Elisa plans to purchase airline tickets, secure lodging
and transportation for the dance group with the funds she raises.
She also plans to create a video to display the culture and customs
of the people of the Atlantic Coast.
The image of Nicaragua, which is portrayed in the U.S.
media, is one of devastation war and hurricanes. Miss Levy hopes to expose another side of Nicaragua
that the media has not yet seen.
Ms Levy is currently in the process of planning a millennium
Dinner Ball. Queen Elisa’s Millennium Dinner Ball is a black tie
affair which will be held on December 31rst, 2000 at 8:00pm located
at Forester Banquet Hall,1204 Middlefield Road, Redwood City,
California. Music is by
D.J Electro. The cost of tickets will be$40:00 per person and
